EDUCATION on the Fylde Coast is managed by different authorities depending on where you live. Since 1998 Blackpool Council has been a unitary authority which means they are responsible for the provision of both primary and secondary education. Fylde and Wyre remain under Lancashire County Council control. There are a number of special schools in the area as well as seven independant schools. Further education is also well catered for for those who want to take their learning further. Many high schools have sixth form facilities and there is Blackpool Sixth Form College on Blackpool Old Road and Blackpool and the Fylde College on Palatine Road which offer a number of further education options. Myerscough Agricultural college is also nearby for those wanting to undertake their learning in a more specialised field. Lancaster University and St Martin's College are also a commutable distance away for those students who want to gain their degrees whilst still enjoying the comforts of home.
