ANYONE who witnessed Blackpool lose miserably at bottom of the league Rotherham on March 27 could be forgiven for barely believing what happened next. For it was after that depressing evening in south Yorkshire, that the Seasiders embarked on the best ever run of results in the club's 120-year history.

They won every single game for the remainder of the season, starting with a 2-1 home win over Crewe on March 31 and culminating in brilliant victory at Wembley against Yeovil.

Promotion, ten straight victories ... it couldn't get any better.

Or so we thought. Despite an opening day trip in the Championship to Leicester, a side who had spent millions over the summer, Keith Southern's goal made it 11 wins on the trot.

A Carling Cup win at Huddersfield, although it didn't count towards any records, continued the golden streak.

Unfortunately, a 12th straight league victory eluded them as Pool conceded late on to Bristol City and were held to a draw.

It felt strangely disappointing. But, on reflection, how could we be possibly disappointed?

Pool's magnificent achievement will grace the club's history books for years to come.

Triumph

Simon Grayson has created his own little piece of history. He is the 26th manager in the club's history.

And although Joe Smith, who guided Pool to their historic FA Cup triumph during his 23-year reign, will be considered the best boss by most fans, even he can't match Grayson's record as a manager. According to the stats, he has the best record of any Blackpool boss ... and now he has the 11-match winning run to boot.

As well as setting a new club record, Pool came within three victories of matching the all-time longest winning sequence, which is 14 games – held jointly by Manchester United, Arsenal, Bristol City and Preston North End.

However, the Seasiders fell someway short of matching the British record for consecutive wins. Celtic won 25 matches on the bounce during the 2003-04 campaign.
