Predictions
It could be a long season - but God knows I'd rather be struggling against likes of Wolves and Watford than Chesterfield and Carlisle.

Simon Grayson says he'll be happy with 21st and he's right to aim low. The jump from League One to Championship is huge and with only four additions to the squad during the summer - plus the capture of Paul Rachubka on a longer-term deal - Pool may find they haven't the all round quality to compete as they'd like to.

That said, team spirit counts for a lot and if Grayson can bring in a couple of decent long-term loans, as he's planning to, then the Seasiders should be able to keep their heads above water.

I think they'll do a Barnsley - struggle for a long while but eventually pull away and finish around 20th place... Which will do nicely.

Back in the second tier of English football for the first time since 1978, a good start might give them early confidence but their stay is likely to last as long as a sandcastle on the beach with the tide coming in.
BBC Sport’s verdict

Although I am worried about the lack of big name signings, I think The Pool will survive this year; however we really need FIFA to sort out the Wes Hoolahan saga (in our favour) asap!

I think we will really struggle this season, signing old boys like Hills looks like a desperate measure. I just don’t think we have enough quality, and without Hoolahan that bit of skill you need to unlock Championship defences.

Whats with all the pessimism? Have people forgotten how good we were at the end of last season? 10 wins on the trot and some great footy! I think if we can play in the same way a top half finish is well within our reach, COME ON YOU POOL!!!!
