"Jim, as an ex-Arnoldian, Sandgrownen and lifelong ‘Pool supporter, I was extremely upset to hear the news today of your diagnosis. I have no doubt, however, that your character, belief, loyalty and determination in everything you do, will ensure that you conquer this challenge quickly and completely. Although I now work in the Netherlands, I will never forget you kind generosity in my last year at Arnold School, when you agreed to let me interview you for a school newsletter I used to write.
Not only did you allow me into your home on Beechfield Avenue one evening to interview you, but you spent two hours of your time to ensure I had everything I needed. It may be 36 years ago, but it will never be forgotten. Jim, I wish you a very speedy and full recovery."
Warmest regards, Barry Parsons |

Like so many others I was sorry to learn of Jimmy Armfileds illness.
It cant be but it is around 50 yeras ago that on my only visit to Bloomfiled road I saw hiom play along with the Blackpool immortals.
Not only is Jimmy a star footballer , but a radio journalist who we miss badly and a church musician.
Jimmy the words of psalm 139 1--11 say it all.

"Dear Jimmy I have just read your book for the second time and thoroughly enjoyed it again. What a pleasant change to read something devoid of bitterness and muckraking. The chapter on the great Stanley Matthews, my late dad's hero, was a joy. I have lived in Italy for 23 years and have listened many times to your comments on 5 live, particularly during Man Utd games. Your love of football and life in general shines through your words and writing. You have to get well now - Blackpool are on the way back! All the very best to you and your family."
Josh Marshallsay |
"When an ardent non-football fan stops and listens to the commentary on the radio, you know that someone special is speaking. And speaking sense too. In the case of my girlfriend, that happens regularly. Whenever Jimmy Armfield is adding his thoughts to those of Alan Green or Mike Ingham or whoever. For me, that is such a breath of fresh air in these days of media hype and nonsense. Neither of us can wait for the hopefully-imminent return of Jimmy's wonderful voice to 5 Live. Our very best wishes. With kind regards."
Loz Farmer |
