Plain sailing for great Greys
A SINGLETON family are on the crest of a wave after being crowned national sailing champions.
Fifteen-year-old Bethany Grey joined elder brother David to win the Mirror Nationwide Champions.
The series of six events began at Bewl at Easter, followed by races at Llanduduno in May, Itchenor in June, Bassenthwaite in July, Sidmouth last month and most recently at Blithfield.
The duo finished up ranked first out of the 76 Mirror Dinghies competing.
Bethany is a pupil at King Edward and Queen Mary School, where David was also a pupil before starting his studies at Huddersfield University.
He and Bethany have been sailing together for three years and got the bug watching sailing on Fairhaven Lake.
Younger sister Emily, aged nine, and Bethany’s twin brother Edward are also keen sailors, with Edward ranked fourth in the Nationwide Series.
They are looking forward to winter training ahead of next summer’s European Championships in Sweden.
