Lesson for the new boys
Blackpool’s new Under-13 side emerged with two defeats but plenty of positives from their triangular tournament against Fylde and Preston Grasshoppers.
Anthony O’Brian and Crawford Barbar were outstanding against Fylde, while Sam Whiston went close to scoring.
Barber was again in fine form against Hoppers and it O’Brian who scored Blackpool’s first try of the season, converted by Liam Scott.

Blackpool Scorpions (U13) 10 Crosfield Cardinals 34
THE Warrington side took an early 10-point lead from two quick tries and were always in front from that point.
Scorpions were against the wind in the first half and a further Crosfield try made it 16-0 at half-time.
Scorpions started to make good ground after the break and Oliver Winter dived over to get them on the scoreboard – his first try for the club in only his second game.
Then Joe Phelps sidestepped two defenders to score under the posts and Jordan Tierney’s conversion left Scorpions right back in the game at 16-10.
But then the match slipped away as three converted tries pulled Crosfields clear.
Positives for Scorpions included Joe Roberts’ distribution, Phelps’ tackling and the all-round efforts of man of the match Scott Butler.
