Hulme can’t save Scorpions
Wigan St Patrick’s 36 Blackpool Scorpions (Under-15) 14
Scorpions went out of the North West Counties Cup in the first round against a side two divisions higher.
The visitors conceded two tries before man-of-the-match full-back Matty Hulme went over in the corner.
It was 16-4 at half-time despite the best efforts of John Beattie, Tom Drury, Josh Shearman, Adam Constantine and Egan.
Half-backs Liam Wilkinson and Joe Bullock came to the fore after the break, and strong runs by prop Omar Fredrick and centre Zach Ward were rewarded with two Anthony Livingstone tries, one from inside his own half. Fredrick landed one goal.

Plate place consolation
Aldwinians 24 Fleetwood (Under-14) 0
ALDWINIANS clinched the league title with this victory but Fleetwood gave a good account of themselves.
Prop Asa Watson and no.8 Jordan Leighton impressed for the visitors who kept their hosts scoreless for 15 minutes.
The first try was against the run of play but Aldwinians added two more before the break.
James Wilson, Ashley Seddon and Mark Maker made strong runs for Fleetwood but their man of the match was prop Daniel Edwards.
Fleetwood can take consolation in qualifying for the Lancashire Plate.
Still undefeated after an 11th win of season
In their final block Saturday fixtures of the season, against against Merchant Taylors of Liverpool close to 180 Arnold School pupils took to the field in 10 different teams.
The first XV remained unbeaten in 2008 after their 11th win of the season.
In-form scrum-half Tom Hart scored the first try and quick-thinking captain Josh Bentley added a second as Arnold edged into a 12-11 half-time lead.
Kicks from David Reed and good all-round play from Sam Cole and John Embelton saw Arnold take control as a try by winger Nick Costello completed the 20-11 win.
The second XV match was a far closer and a penalty from Liam Hill separated the two teams. Chris West and Adam Roberts were the pick of the backs as the home side ran out 3-0 victors. The 3rd XV lost out 27-0.
The Under-15A’s impressive first half set the platform for a sound 17-7 win. Captain Ben Perkins cruised in from 30 yards and James Cave scored a second-half double. Joe Kearney, Luke Smith, Josh Buckley and Tom Wright were impressive. Despite a superb 75-yard try from James Walker, the U15B lost 21-7.
The Under-14A match was also a Lancashire Cup quarter-final and Arnold secured a last four date with Audenshaw thanks to a 24-12 win, with tries by Jacob Reid and winger Lewis Ashcroft The U14B lost 15-5, with Jack Sprigg and Michael Aujla playing well.
The Under-13A lost a very tight match 20-17 despite tries from Ahmed Ahmed (2) and Alex Casey.
The Under-12A went down 50-0 to opponents who have not conceded a try all season. Ned Whittle, Will Jepson, Richard Whiteside and Max Reid played well. In the B match, Arnold went down 33-0.
Pack are a class apart
The pack were outstanding for King Edward and Queen Mary School Under-14s against a far heavier Bolton School eight.
Scrum-half Ralph Dowds gave them a great start with a 40-metre try.
Bolton hit back before Lancashire winger Tom Higham outpaced his opposite number to score and Arciniega’s conversion made it 12-7 at half-time.
With the wind in his side’s favour after the break, Higham ran in two more tries before Conor Miles chased his own kick from a scrum to make the final score 31-7.
King Edward and Queen Mary School Under-13s edged an exciting Lancashire Plate tie against St Mary’s of Crosby 29-28.
Having led 19-14 at half-time, KEQMS found themselves eight points down with 10 minutes to go only for two tries by St Annes-based Will Thompson to turn the match around.
