Hot shot Emily leads the way as hockey girls go on a goal spree
Arnold’s Under-12A hockey players are proving goalscoring sensations with 29 in four fixtures since half-term.
Along with the B and C teams, they defeated local rivals King Edward and Queen Mary School, Lytham.
The A team played some excellent hockey and won 10-1, five of the goals scored by hard-hitting St Annes girl Emily Adams.
Jessica Omassoli was outstanding on the right wing and scored a hat-trick, while centre forward Emily Owen added the other two.
The B team game was much closer, with Lucy Dale scoring the decisive goal in the first half. Sweeper Rebecca Aspin played well at the back and goalkeeper Sophie Glassock made some good saves.
Brooklyn Whiteside worked hard in midfield for Arnold C team, who led at half-time through Morgan Aujla’s shot.
Jade Tsaing doubled the lead before KEQMS scored a consolation.
BUSY KEQMS teams were also in action against Cardinal Allen and Merchant Taylors of Liverpool.
Natasha Singleton was player of the match for the Under-16B against Cardinal Allen, scoring twice in the 4-1 win.
KEQMS under-12s lost all three matches to Arnold but the A team were winners against Merchant Taylor’s, as were the under-14s.
Star of the show for the under-12s was Lytham’s Evie Manning, who scored a hat-trick.
King Edward and Queen Mary School’s Under-16s just missed out on a place in the North of England final of the National Tournament at Timperley Hockey Centre in Manchester.
The Lytham school qualified for the semis after beating Sheffield HS 2-0 and drawing with Kings School, Chester.
However, defeat by an outstanding Cheadle Hulme side cost them a final place.
Arnold School’s hockey teams enjoyed a clean sweep of wins over Stockport G.S.
Georgia Perkins gave the first XI the lead on the new Astroturf pitch with an unstoppable strike from a penalty corner.
Stockport had equalised by half-time but Aime Knighton restored Arnold’s lead from a Danielle Bamber pass.
Rebecca Shillito and Natalie Smith were outstanding in midfield and player of the match Sophie Oliver made the final score 3-1.
Two-goal Stephanie Lees was impressive on the left in the second tem’s 6-0 romp. Alex Holme and Lilli Taylor also scored twice, while Lydia McNulty worked hard in midfield.
A superb strike from Faye Shearer gave an early lead to the under-15s, who were four up by half-time thanks to Shearer’s second and goals by Harley Greene and Georgina Read.
Good work by Elizabeth Thorpe enabled both Read and Greene to net a second in the 6-0 win.
A Lara Cherry goal settled a tight under-14 game, with Roxanna Reynolds making some fine saves.
Having been held 1-1 at half-time, the under-13s pulled clear to win 4-1, with goalscorer Leora Hyman outstanding on the left.
Top scorer Holly Monteiro added two and Meghan Fearn was the other scorer.
Both under-12 teams recorded very big wins, with Emily Adams scoring five in the A team’s 12-0 success. The other scorers were Rosie Gillis (3), Jessica Omassoli (2) and Courtney Spector (2).
Emily Owen led the way with a hat-trick in the B team’s 8-0 win, while Abbey Taylor scored twice and Lucy Dale, Kim Wan and Sophie Harrison were on target too.
