Arnold School’s first XI travelled to Edinburgh to play two of Scotland’s top hockey schools.
Last year’s Scottish champions George Watson College moved into an early two-goal lead before Danielle Bamber’s reverse sweep made it 2-1 at half-time from Cara Smith’s excellent pass.
Good defending from Honor Cam and crucial saves from Hannah Akhtar kept Arnold in the hunt until George Watson equalised with a late penalty corner. The tireless Sophie Oliver was player of the match.
However, Arnold’s exertions took their toll against a Mary Erskine side who led 4-0 at half-time.
Despite conceding twice more, Arnold rallied in the second half and Stephanie Lees scored a consolation goal on her debut.
Katie Ashcroft’s hat-trick helped the Under-15s to a 5-2 win over Lancaster Girls.
Captain Harley Greene was outstanding on the right wing, setting up all the goals and scoring one. Georgina Read also scored.
The U14B defeated Lancaster’s A team thanks to the only goal by Ceri Armit. Midfielder Meg Kearney was player of the match.
Both U13 teams put Lancaster to the sword, the A side winning 9-0 with goals by Holly Monteiro (4), Charlotte Evans (3), Leora Hyman and Hannah Hesketh.
Megan Fearn scored three in the B team’s 5-1 win, the other goals coming from Lilli Helme and Rosie Craven.
In Bolton, Arnold U15B held Canon Slade’s School’s A team to a goalless draw, with Lauren Au outstanding.
The U13C team also faced A opposition but lost 4-1 despite a fine performance by midfielder Sophie Calvert and a Katie Davies goal.
