Arnold have all the answers

Arnold started the hockey season with their first ever clean sweep of wins at Stockport GS.
Danielle Bamber scored the only goal of the first half for the first XI and Cara Smith added two superb strikes from penalty corners.
Excellent work from captain Rebecca Shillito led to a second for Bamber, who then converted Smith’s cross to complete her own hat-trick and the 5-0 win. Debutant Lizzie Salmon was player of the match.
The Second XI were just as impressive, winning 4-0 as Samantha Read played superbly in defence. Lydia McNulty, Emily Martin, Stephanie Lees and Samantha Read were the scorers.
A first-minute goal by the under-15s was quickly cancelled out but strikes by Georgina Read and Harley Greene gave Arnold a comfortable lead.
Stockport pulled back to 3-2 at half-time but Arnold then ran away with it as Read and Greene both netted a second. Faye Shearer completed the 7-2 win.
The under-14 game was the closest and Arnold had to defend well to protect their 2-1 lead.
Naomi Jones made some crucial saves and the Arnold scorers were Charlotte Greenwood and Rachel Fackey.
The under-13s were comfortable 4-0 winners in their first 11-a-side game, with goals from Gina Studholme, Megan Fearn, Charlotte Evans and Holly Monteiro.

Mixed fortunes for Kirkham

Kirkham GS girls had mixed fortunes against Wakefield High.
The first team worked hard and played some good hockey in the second half of a goalless game.
The second team were unable to make the most of their possession and lost 1-0.
The under-15 battled hard but went down 5-1 to a side who reached last season’s national finals.
The under-14s were missing key players but were dominant 3-1 winners, while the under-13s drew 0-0.
