It’s non-stop action for hockey girls
Year 7 hockey players from King Edward and Queen Mary School enjoyed an action-packed week, which included a north Lancashire tour and two tournaments closer to home.
The tour started with matches against St Mary’s Hall, where the Lytham school’s A team were 7-0 winners and the B team were edged out 2-1 despite a goal by Georgina Fox.
The A team completed the tour unbeaten after a 2-0 victory over Rivington and Blackrod School and a goalless draw with Blackburn Northern Juniors.
The B team were again narrowly beaten 2-1 by Rivington.
The tour served as ideal preparation for the Lancashire Under-12 tournament at Preston Arena, where KEQMS finished third.
Evie Manning was the star player for the Lytham team, who beat Westholme School 3-0 and Ripley St Thomas 2-0, drew with Arnold and lost 3-2 to Kirkham GS.
KEQMS also settled for third place in their group in the Arnold School under-12s event, despite conceding only one goal in a tournament which attracted teams from Cumbria and London. Phillippa Wood was the outstanding player.

Arnold are mini-champs
Arnold School’s under-13s have been crowned queens of Lancashire in the National Mini-Hockey Championships.
The A team won all their group matches in the 18-team tournament, scoring 35 goals and not conceding one.
Highlights for Arnold included Sophie Akhtar’s penalty flick against Kirkham B, Hannah Hesketh’s shots from penalty corners, Charlotte Evans’ outstanding end-to-end efforts and captain Holly Monteiro’s great attacking play.
A 3-0 win over Blackpool HC saw Arnold crowned county champions and secured their place in the North regional finals at Manchester’s Belle Vue stadium on April 27.
