Girls off on calypso tour

OH, we’re going to Barbados! A group of 39 Kirkham Grammar School girls have embarked on the trip of a lifetime. They boarded a Virgin Atlantic flight to the Caribbean island for the Kirkham senior hockey tour. A school spokesman said: “This is an experience that will never be forgotten. The girls will play nine matches and experience all that the island has to offer. Planned trips include a catamaran cruise, which will allow the girls to swim with turtles. Various fund-raising activities have made the tour possible, including sponsored hockey which involved 100 girls. - KGS netball teams notched a double against King Edward and Queen Mary School, Lytham. The under-12 A team won 14-11, while the under-12 B team were successful 12-7. Top scorers in the A match were Lindsey O’Brien (7) and Savannah Des-Etages (8), with Courtney Rawcliffe also on fine form. Georgia Gaeta-Craven (7) and Nicole Wainwright (6) led the way in the B match as Hannah Butler impressed. Kirkham and Arnold under-14s fought out a thrilling 16-16 draw in which KGS equalised with 15 seconds remaining.
