Tour girls hit victory trail
King Edward and Queen Mary School’s biggest ever under-13/14 hockey tour party was triumphant in the North-East.
The 46 players headed east for matches against Giggleswick School and Royal Grammar School, Newcastle.
The under-14s were comfortable 5-1 winners over Giggleswick, with goals by Hazel Cockerill, Charlotte Horwood, Laura Fenton, Lottie Owen and Natasha Singleton.
The under-13 A team had to overcome stout defence but two goals from Georgina Coughlin and one from Rachael Harrison, both from St Annes, sealed victory.
The under-13 B team played Giggleswick’s A side and competed well despite losing 8-2. Hannah Youles and Erin Wilson scored.
Natasha Singleton from Ansdell and Lottie Owen from Lytham both netted hat-tricks in the under-14s’ 7-0 victory over Royal Grammar, while Katie Alderson of Fairhaven and Elle Anderson of Ansdell both scored two in the under-13A’s 6-0 win.
The under-13 B team lost 3-1 against under-14 opponents but again fought hard, with Jessica Towers from Freckleton the scorer.
-THE first XI came back from behind three times to earn a thrilling 3-3 draw at Altrincham Grammar – and the under-14s did exactly the same.
Lytham-based captain Penny Pemberton reverse-swept an excellent first equaliser for understrength KEQMS and player of the match Jessica Lambert went close with a textbook corner strike before Pemberton scored her second.
They showed a great fighting spirit to break down the left and Ansdell’s Jordana Singleton clinched a well deserved draw.
The under-14 scorers were Singleton, Richardson and Owen, while Vickey Hives was the outstanding player in one of the team’s best displays of the season.
The under-15s struggled to cope with Altrincham’s pace and fell to a rare defeat 4-0 despite an outstanding performance by Mia Johnson.
Winger Lily Chadwick’s dangerous crosses were a key featur of the under-12A’s 3-0 win, in which player of the match Rachel Hirst from Ansdell scored twice. Rebecca White stood out in a goalless B team game.
