Keeping up standards

A Lytham school is No.1 in the county for goalkeepers.

Six hockey keepers from King Edward and Queen Mary School are representing Lancashire this season.

Kim Kirkham, Georgia Coughlin and Ruby Lawson all play at under-13s level, Gabby Newell at under-14, Vicky Hives at under-15 and Haley Shepherd at under-16.

It’s a tribute to the hard work of England under-21 goalkeeper Kirsty McKay at the school’s goalkeepers academy.

KEQMS hockey coach Kay Hanham said: “We have a record number of girls representing Lancashire this year but the number of goalkeepers is remarkable.”
