Outlook Fair for captains
The junior season began in earnest at Fairhaven Golf Club with the first drive-in for the new captains.
Boys’ captain for the year is David Plucknett, 17, a pupil at King Edward’s and Queen Mary’s School, Lytham.
He plays off a handicap of six, and has already represented Fairhaven men’s scratch team.
Incoming girls’ captain is Coral New, 16, a pupil at Blackpool Sixth Form College, who has a handicap of 21.
After the traditional drive off down the first hole by the two captains, there followed a match between two teams ultimately won by the team led by David.
The day was rounded off by the junior section winter prize giving, at which the outgoing junior captains, David Gregory and Jenna Cooke presented the junior captain’s prizes to Alex Olsson and Katy Lambert.
Earlier in the day, Fairhaven hosted a pro-am competition, each team comprising of a Lancashire Girls team representative, a lady player and a professional.
This involved Jenna Cooke and Sam Hamer, Fairhaven’s assistant professional.
The Fairhaven Golf Club junior open will be held on July 30. There are still places available, and application forms are available from the club.
