Thornton Cleveleys have been crowned cricket’s Palace Shield Under-11 champions.
It made up for the disappointment of losing to Chorley in the Lancashire Cup final – though that was their only defeat all season and they did win £500 to spend on sports equipment.
TC defeated Penwortham in the Palace Shield final after winning every match in the league campaign.
The league consisted of teams from Preston, Chorley and Leyland as well as Fylde, and TC won all their group games before beating Great Eccleston and Wrea Green in the knockout stages to reach the final at South Shore CC.
Penwortham set a 20-over target of 262 but Alex Naylor kept his nerve in the final over to clinch victory for the Fylde team.
There were good batting performances from Josh Winter, Oliver Kelly and Tom Higson, while Sam Bradshaw, Joseph Palmer and Jake Woodhouse all impressed with the ball.
