Marcus earns biathlon glory

TWO Blackpool brothers were among those who did Arnold School proud at the National Schools Biathlon Championships at the superb Palatine Leisure Centre in Blackpool. Year 10 pupil, Marcus Quarmby was the star of the squad as he won the Year 10 boys’ event ahead of challengers from 19 other schools. His 1000m run of 2mins, 56secs was the fastest of the day and a fine 100m swim of 1:48 was enough to secure first place overall and book his place in the National Finals next February. Marcus representedGreat Britian in the recent Biathle World Championships in Monaco. His younger brother, 13-year-old Daniel Quarmby, was also in fine form as he claimed fifth place overall in the Year 8 boys’ event. Daniel ran his 1000m in 3.17 and completed his 50m swim in 32.04. With the top six qualifying for the National Finals, this means Daniel will be joining his brother at the University of Bath next February. There were also fine performances from Vicky Crawford in the Year 13 girls’ event, Michael Yaxley in the Year 9 boys’ and Alexandra Quarmby in the Year 6 girls’
