Champs hall the way

BLACKPOOL Wyre and Fylde Athletic club successfully retained the title of Lancashire Sportshall Champions. Having won the first two meetings, BWFAC duly completed the hat-trick at Blackpool Sports Centre to thwart a strong challenge from Preston and Horwich. Besides winning the overall title, BWF also won comfortably in the under-11 boys’ category, while the under-13 boys pulled off a shock win. The under-13s had only four in their team but members of the under-11s stepped up and helped them win all three relays. Victory for the girls too meant the club were crowned overall under-13 champions. The under-15 girls and boys were both second, with the under-11 girls third. - TEN Blackpool Wyre and Fylde sportshall athletes did themselves proud for Lancashire against Greater Manchester, Cheshire Cumbria and Merseyside in the regional finals. Pride of place goes to James Davies and Jack Scarr, who helped the Red Rose under-15 boys’ team to victory and a place in the UK final in Brimingham. James won individual goal medals in the four-lap race (45.8secs) and standing triple jump (8.28m), a team gold in the eight-lap Paarlauf andalso finished third in the shot (10.09m). Jack was part of the victorious 4xtwo-lap relay team. Christopher Pate won standing triple jump gold (6.98m) in a Lancashire under-13 team which also included BWF’s Mathew Walker, David Jones and Finn Walker and finished third. The under-13 girls were runners-up to Cheshire with contributions by BWF’s Taegen O’Hara, Rebecca Todd, Emily Dickson, and Chloe Needham.
