Making a dash to keep fit out of school hours

STANLEY Park is the venue for a series of cross country events to help children keep fit outside school hours. Around 650 took part in the opening event in which six separate runs, for primary and secondary boys and girls aged seven to 15, set off at 10-minute intervals throughout the morning. Children from Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre schools took part. It was all just for fun,the idea being to encourage as many as possible to take part and to promote healthy living.

KIRKHAM Grammar School won the AJIS under-10 boys’ cross country championships at Rossall School. Bradley Yates won in the individual section, with Josh Keegan fourth, Tom Gargett sixth, Aarin Chiekrie 18th, Charlie Bruce 51st, George Hurst 98th and Charlie Abbott 101st. The Kirkham under-10 girls were second overall, with Ellie Greenhalgh third, Olivia Anderton 16th, Lucy Keelan 22nd, Abigail King 32nd, Milly Foley 46th, Poppy Morris 49th and Brooke Turnbull 89th. Lucy Meagh was seventh in the under-13s to help her team finish 13th, while the boys were ninth.
