Biathle brothers’ Monaco magic

Two of Arnold School’s talented athletes, year 10 pupil, Marcus Quarmby, and his brother from year 8, Daniel, excelled in the World Biathle Championship in Monaco. Marcus and Daniel both raced in a field of 20 of the world’s best under-15 and under-13 athletes respectively. Marcus came seventh in 5min 2secs – 25 seconds better than his previous personal best and Daniel finished 12th with an excellent personal best by 10 seconds. Marcus’s race comprised a 500m run, a 100m swim and a 500 run. Daniel’s was the same but with a 50m swim. It was a massive step up in class for both boys, whose first biathle was the British Championship only two months ago. The South Africans topped the medal table, with GB coming a close second. The Arnold boys are already preparing for next year’s finals in South Africa. After a successful trial at QEGS Blackburn, two of Arnold School’s most talented footballers have been included in the ISFA North of England representative squad. Year 12 students, James Craigen and Ben Rothwell, will be part of an 18-strong squad to play against Cheshire at the King’s School, Chester on October 14. They will then go onto play the Liverpool County FA on Sunday November 19 before the final match against the South of England on December 2. James Craigen captained the ISFA U16 side last season..
